Jul. 29--The United Farm Workers calls it the most important piece of legislation since the California Agricultural Labor Relations Act in 1975.

Agribusiness representatives call it an anti-democratic proposal that undermines what Cesar Chavez fought for.

The Fair Treatment of Farm Workers Act would allow farmworkers to select a union by signing a card. Supporters say the option would eliminate most of the fear farmworkers feel when election time comes and their bosses pressure them into not voting to unionize.
