Jul. 29--EDMOND -- Aric Kampschaefer doesn't know what he wants to be when he grows up, but he's ready to try anything. "There's a range of about 10 things: writer, musician, professional tennis player," he said.
The Deer Creek Middle School student has rappelled down cliffs, trekked through the Grand Canyon and stood on a glacier. Now, at age 13, he's ready to travel to Africa to learn a little more about nature, photography and writing.
Aric is one of 15 students in the nation chosen to go Aug. 6-15 to South Africa as part of the National Geographic Kids Hands-On Explorer Challenge.
