Jul. 29--They won't be ready for opening day.
But construction work on the Bayfront Convention Center's companion pieces -- the host Sheraton Hotel and a 300-space parking ramp -- should finish by mid-March, 2008.
That would allow both facilities to open in early April, said Jim Hamilton, a project superintendent for Barton Malow Co., which is overseeing the entire $100 million convention center and hotel project.
The convention center will host its first event Thursday, with a larger-scale grand opening planned Aug. 23.
