Jul. 30--The election is more than a year away, but as many as six Democrats are eyeing challenges to Paul Ryan.
The Janesville Republican has held the 1st District congressional seat for nine years.
The only active candidate with a longer record of seeking that office is Jeff Thomas of Janesville, who has run seven times with no success.
Thomas said he will make it eight.
Thomas welcomed the news that so many other Democrats might run.
Thomas won the 2006 Democratic primary in a field of five candidates before losing again to Ryan.
