It was a real San Francisco treat for base ball fans who gathered at the 78th Major League Baseball All-Star Game at AT&T Park. The record crowd of 43,965 watched as its original hometown hero, the legendary Willie Mays was honored and his successor, Giants slugger Barry Bonds, played his first All-Star Game in his hometown.
Before the American League's win over the Nationals 5-4-securing homefield advantage for the World Series-Hail of Famer Mays was honored with a touching tribute at the waterfront ballpark, where a statue of the 24-time All-Star outfielder greets fans and tourists every day at 24 Willie Mays Plaza.
