Jul. 31--LODI -- Among the first things students notice about new Lodi Middle School Principal Marco Sanchez are what he calls his "cauliflower ears," he said.
He doesn't mind students gawking, however, because the bumps and lumps in his ears chronicle a story of athletic success that helped him earn a college scholarship, a chance to represent Puerto Rico in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta and his father's adoration.
Cauliflower ear is caused by the repeated pounding a wrestler's ears take when not wearing headgear, he said.
