When Danny Ainge joined the Celtics as executive director of basketball operations four years ago, he insisted he wasn't interested in winning a playoff round or two. All he cared about was capturing the storied franchise's 17th NBA championship.
So Ainge's acquisition of Kevin Garnett, reportedly held up only by working out the details of a contract extension for the All-Star power forward, can't be judged a success unless the Celtics win a title with him - or at the very least finish atop the weak Eastern Conference.
Simply returning to the playoffs after missing them the past two seasons won't do. ...
