Abstract
Aim. Understanding how midwifery knowledge supports normal birth is critical, as positivism and the medical model of care have profoundly influenced maternity care and in turn women's confidence in their own ability to give birth normally.
Objectives. This research study sought to explore how midwives use their knowledge to support normal birth, in a midwifery-led environment.
Method. This study used a qualitative critique of semi-structured interviews with nine midwives working in a midwife-led environment. Thematic analysis and aspects of grounded theory were used to analyse the data collected.
