The city's public transport is so poor that even lower middle class people who stay closer to railway stations and interchanges are buying cars to commute to work instead of using public transport.

And some are even buying homes in suburbs with little or no public transport because of the perceived lack of attraction of commuting, a study says.

Many city motorists are not likely to switch to public transport due to negative perceptions they have about the security and reliability of trains, buses and taxis.
