In the rush to build that critical relationship with suppliers, it's easy for purchasing managers to forget that these suppliers themselves have relationships with each other, too. Knowing the types of supplier-supplier relationships you are likely to encounter and what they will mean for your business is the key to maintaining an efficient supply chain.
Ask your purchasing managers if they sometimes want their suppliers to work together and then other times they don't want them to even talk to each other. If the answer to this question is, "yes," then they just told you that the relationship between suppliers matters to them--how the suppliers work or not work ...
