THE head of the investigation into the murder of student Inge Lotz thought it fishy that her boyfriend, Fred van der Vyver, had an alibi long before he was a suspect, while hiding important facts from the police, and that his boss and private investigators seemed to be trying to protect him.
"He provided an alibi on March 17, 2005, the day after the murder," Director Attie Trollip, provincial head of the police's local criminal records centre, told the Cape High Court.
"It was as if he wanted to already thoroughly set out the times. I also felt he left out important facts, such as the letters Lotz had written to him. ...
