Aug. 2--With a shortage of volunteer drivers, senior citizens in significant sections of Upper Bucks County are unable to get hot meals delivered to their homes through the Meals on Wheels program.
"There is an unmet need," said M.W. Ernst, manager of the Upper Bucks Senior Center, which is operating out of the basement of Trinity United Lutheran Church after last month's fire. "And it's not even just drivers, it is drivers who are willing to go out in the boondocks in every direction."
In Upper Bucks, many Meals on Wheels recipients are spread out, requiring drivers to cover large distances, she said.
