Runway work breaks ground.

Aug. 2--FRIEDENS -- It may be the most underappreciated 305 feet in Somerset County.

Standing at the edge of the runway at the county airport, a strip of high grass looks little like a key for economic development.

But in about six months, it will be just that. County officials broke ground Wednesday to extend the runway about the length of a football field.

While it may not seem like a lot, that 305 feet is "the number for Somerset County that stands between then and now," county Commissioner Pamela Tokar-Ickes said.

"The Somerset County Airport will become a piece of the larger puzzle of growing jobs in the county."
