Aug. 2--It is the deadliest form of gynecological cancer.
Each year, an estimated 15,000 Americans die of ovarian cancer, where malignant cells are found in a woman's reproductive organs, the ovaries.
For a long time, ovarian cancer was called the "silent killer" because symptoms were not thought to develop until the chance of curing it was poor. Almost 70 percent of women with ovarian cancer are not diagnosed until the disease is advanced in stage, according to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition.
