Mullahs, popes and self-proclaimed evangelists tend to blame a decline in public morals on "secularism." They are unhappy with a society in which, according to the dictionary, a concern for people's general welfare "predominates over religious considerations."
For some fundamentalists, moral confusion and cultural decay in the U.S. are the inevitable consequence of the secularization of American culture.
