Nearly three weeks have passed since the start of the third school term, but work under the recovery plan, aimed at helping pupils make up lessons lost during the public service strike, has not begun, according to the SA Democratic Teachers' Union (Sadtu).

Sadtu handed the provincial government a memorandum yesterday calling for the dismissal of Education MEC Cameron Dugmore and listing grievances.

It blames the government for the delay.

Although Sadtu had welcomed the recovery plan, it rejected the stipend to be paid to teachers for weekend classes, its provincial chair, Sabelo Mali, said.
