Local Government and Housing MEC Richard Dyantyi has accused the City of Cape Town of not spending enough money on the urban renewal nodes of Khayelitsha and Mitchell's Plain.

President Thabo Mbeki declared a number of areas, including the two townships, presidential nodes for urban renewal a number of years ago.

Yesterday as a standing committee on governance held public hearings on the budget process in the provincial legislature, secretary of the Khaye-litsha Development Forum, Michael Benu, asked Dyantyi what he was doing about the "scattered" way in which the urban renewal programme was being implemented in the area.
