BRIEF: Downpour Not Expected To Continue Into Weekend.

Aug. 3--TAMPA -- As much as 4 inches of rain fell on parts of the Tampa Bay area Thursday as a strong upper-level disturbance collided with tropical moisture off the Gulf of Mexico.

A little over 2 inches was recorded at Tampa International Airport by afternoon. At MacDill Air Force Base, 3.6 inches fell, and 4 inches were recorded in parts of Pasco and Hernando counties.

By today, the rainfall should be gone.

Barry Goldsmith, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Ruskin, said the rain clouds should be followed by pockets of dry air through the weekend.
