East-West Road Faces Delay.

Aug. 3--TAMPA -- A long-awaited road project that is supposed to ease the traffic crunch in New Tampa could be delayed up to two years because of new federal study requirements.

The East-West Road, a toll road that would link heavily traveled Bruce B. Downs Boulevard with Interstate 275, was projected for completion by 2010. Tampa officials had acquired the necessary right of way and completed all the required studies, or so they thought.

Now, the Federal Highway Administration is requesting additional study that could delay the project by 18 months to two years and add an additional cost of up to $2 million.
