Aug. 3--TAMPA -- The Tampa City Council on Thursday joined with the mayor in seeking a federal investigation into the fatal shooting of a black teenager by a white police officer 40 years ago.
"It's an opportunity to put the issue to rest or at least bring some peace of mind and comfort to the family and people of this community," said Councilman Thomas Scott, who made the motion to seek the investigation.
The motion was approved 5-0 with Linda Saul-Sena and Charlie Miranda absent.
