Aug. 3--TAMPA -- Officer John Armao smiled at a Tampa couple, a red scar extending his grin from the right corner of his mouth down to his jaw.
"You're looking good, man. Real good," said Daniel Pitts, 40, as Pitts and his wife, Gwen, hugged Armao.
The last time the three saw each other was during a gunfight May 11 when the couple tended to the wounded Armao after a convicted felon shot him with a .44 Magnum. The bullet went across his face and into his shoulder.
"I think about it, and just another inch either way, instead of going across my face, it would've been in my mouth," Armao said. "You're just thankful to see a friendly face ...
