Aug. 3--The former payroll clerk for Prince George County Public Schools will serve six months in jail -- likely on weekends -- for embezzling $38,000 in school system funds over 2 1/2 years.
Ruth Cox, 42, was sentenced to nine 10-year prison terms, but Petersburg Circuit Judge James F. D'Alton Jr. suspended the time on the condition she serve six months at Riverside Regional Jail.
If deemed eligible, Cox will serve her time on weekends. She was ordered to report to jail by 7 p.m. today.
Cox already has made full restitution to the school division, but D'Alton ordered her to pay an additional $839 in reimbursement costs.
