Aug. 5--Buffalo's pooches have reason to celebrate.
The city's first dog park opened at LaSalle Park near the baseball diamonds Saturday, drawing about 20 pups and their owners.
The dogs were allowed to roam without a leash, otherwise required by city law, and it became the first off-leash park in the city.
Also on hand to celebrate were Assemblyman Sam Hoyt, Erie County Legislator Maria Whyte and park advocate Jay McCarthy.
Currently, the 1.5 acre space is bare-bones, marked only by a chain link fence and one gated entrance. But organizers hope to add a drinking fountain and a new fence that prevents ...
