Aug. 5--It can be annoying walking through a grassy field and then stepping into something soft. You look down at the bottom of your shoe, and you realize you just stepped in dog waste.
That dog waste not only can ruin your shoes, it can also hurt the environment. If it's washed away after a storm, it can wash into the New River and hurt the aquatic life.
Pet waste is just one of many bad effects of storm-water runoff, and Jacksonville city leaders are trying to educate the public about how to prevent it.
