Aug. 5--When Doug Gray started singing in public at age 7, his father recognized that his son had the potential to be a star, and decided to give the lad a real-life lesson.
"I didn't know what work was all about, so my father took me to a cotton mill on a Saturday and said, 'You can use the talent you were born with, or you can go to work here like everybody else,'" Gray said.
He may have only been in grade school, but he was old enough to realize that heading toward the spotlight would be a much more pleasant career path than working in a mill.
