Malaysia is not secular or an Islamic state: PM
Kuala Lumpur, Aug 5 (PTI) Malaysia is neither a secular nor a theocratic state, Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has said, days after his deputy had created resentment among minority groups by saying the country is an Islamic state.
"We are not a secular state, we are also not a theocratic state like Iran and Pakistan which Pan-Malaysian Islamic party wants us to be, but we are a government that's based on parliamentary democracy," the prime minister was quoted as saying by Bernama news agency yesterday.
