NEW YORK, March 27 /PRNewswire/ -- A New York Number Portability Trial Task Force, comprised of AT&T (NYSE: T), Cellular One-Genessee Telephone, LOCATE, MCI (Nasdaq-NNM: MCIC), MFS Intelenet, Inc., NYNEX (NYSE: NYN), Rochester Telephone Corporation, Sprint (NYSE: FON), Teleport Communications Group and Time Warner Communications (NYSE: TWX) said they have issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) to interested vendors in pursuit of hardware and software to support a trial of local number portability, using a database architecture. Local number portability will allow telecommunications customers to retain their local telephone numbers when changing local service providers.
