MINNEAPOLIS - In March, a Pastors for Peace caravan will stop for the first time in Chiapas, Mexico, where fragile peace threatens to erupt into war. The caravan will bring emergency assistance: beans and rice and boots for the rainy season.
Then the caravan - the 20th since 1988, when the first lumbered into Nicaragua on Christmas Eve - will continue on to Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua to donate goods far more typical of Pastors for Peace: development aid such as seeds and tractors rather than food, sewing machines rather than clothing.
