WASHINGTON -- The strong opposition to lifting the 22-year-old ban on the export of Alaska North Slope (ANS) crude oil seems to be weakening.
Tosco Corp. -- one of most adamant opponents of Alaska oil exports -- is considering backing efforts to lift the ban, provided that certain conditions are met, industry and Capitol Hill sources say.
Tosco and some powerful allies, including Rep. George Miller (R-Calif.) and Sens. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) and Patty Murray (D-Wash.) have successfully shot down past efforts to lift the embargo.
