History

A 9-year-old male cockatiel (Nymphicus hollandicus) was presented with a 1-month history of difficulty perching, picking at its feet, and lethargy. The bird had been acquired by the current owner 8 years previously from an acquaintance and was maintained with another adult cockatiel of unknown sex that had no evidence of abnormalities. Twenty days before presentation, the bird was examined by the referring veterinarian who noted the bird to be febrile and prescribed difloxacin (Dicural, Wyeth, Madison, N J, USA) at an unknown dosage.
