Officials at Edina-based Alliant Techsystems will have a nice weekend, after NASA on Friday awarded the company the $1.8 billion space contract it has coveted for two years. The seven-year deal, to make the rocket propulsion system for the Ares I vehicle that will replace the space shuttle, is about $300 million more than expected. And it ensures that Alliant's 30-year relationship with NASA continues - and in a big way. "This is one of the largest contracts that ATK has ever secured.
