Aug. 13--Aqua Indiana customers could see their water and sewer bills double if the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission approves.

The company announced Monday morning it has petitioned the commission for a rate increase made necessary by state environmental and water-quality requirements. It is not known when the increase would take effect if approved, or when the commission will consider the request.

According to the utility, residential customers who use 5,000 gallons of water would see their monthly water bill increase from $17.82 to $35.64 and their sewer bill jump from $24.77 to $49.54. The request covers about 11,000 residents on the company's ...
