Aug. 13--University of California President Robert C. Dynes is stepping down, effective next June, ending a five-year presidency marred by a compensation controversy but which also included significant expansion of research and undergraduate education at the prestigious 10-campus system.
The 64-year-old physicist said he is relinquishing his post to focus on his personal life, including a new marriage, and to continue his research into superconductivity.
Dynes will be replaced by Provost and Executive Vice President Wyatt R. Hume until a new president is named.
