Federal-fund requirements onerous, Claremont, N.H.-area officials say.

Aug. 10--At a time when concerns over infrastructure are dominating discussion across the country, local officials say they could do more to keep up with infrastructure needs if not for the hoops they jump through on projects supported with federal money.

U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, a member of a Senate committee focused on public works issues, brought his listening tour to Springfield Thursday night. Before a crowded select board meeting room, Sanders heard story after story about the problems facing Vermont towns and how greater flexibility could make things a lot easier.
