Aug. 14--University of California President Robert C. Dynes announced Monday he is stepping down, effective in June next year, ending a five-year presidency marred by a systemwide compensation scandal but that also included expansion of research at the universities' 10 campuses.
The 64-year-old physicist said he is relinquishing his post to enjoy a new marriage and continue his research into superconductivity at the University of California-San Diego.
Asked by reporters if he was pressured to resign, he responded buoyantly: "Yes -- by my wife."
