Aug. 15--ALBANY -- The head of the city's police union says the group would consent to a zero-tolerance policy barring officers from reporting for duty with any alcohol in their system.
But Christian P. Mesley, president of the Albany Police Officers Union, said the issue may still await a judge's decision because the union is unwilling to also consent to a ban on officers drinking within four hours of duty.
That is the policy sought by Police Chief James Tuffey as a compromise from the eight-hour drinking ban he created after the death of Detective Kenneth Wilcox, who had alcohol in his blood at the time of his ...
