Aug. 15--California Newspapers Partnership named Jeff Kiel the publisher of the Mercury News on Tuesday, succeeding George Riggs, who continues as CNP president.
Kiel, 48, joined the Mercury News in February 2002 as vice president of advertising. Before that, he held a number of positions at the Miami Herald, leaving the paper as its chief financial officer, and with Knight Ridder, which owned both the Herald and the Mercury News.
