Aug. 15--DeMarre Carroll was lucky.
That much he knows as he thinks back to the morning of July 5, when a bullet nearly interrupted his basketball career and could have ended a lot more than that.
Carroll, a 6-foot-8 junior power forward, was one of two men shot outside Club Tropicana on Cherry Street in downtown Columbia when a fight broke out early in the morning after the Fourth of July holiday.
