Salty sea air drifts around me. I watch the sunrise and it engages me in its ritual: a slow and careful emergence from a peaceful blue mass. My eyes are closed, and 1 listen to the hum of the ship's engine and waves breaking on its side. At a perfect moment. three dolphins dance at the bow greeting me, a neighbor in their deep peaceful habitat. When the dance is finished, I pick up my pen and continue writing my paper, "The Mau Mau Movement," for a Political Violence and Revolution class.
My "study hall" was adorned with dolphins and sunrises because I was one of 400 students participating in the Semester at Sea Program, sponsored by the University of Pittsburgh and ...
