Aug. 16--Deborah "Debbie" Murdock, a popular lobbyist who helped transform Portland State University from a commuter college to a vibrant urban research university, died Tuesday in a Portland hospital only days after learning she had cancer. She was 52.
Friends and community leaders described Murdock as a well respected, behind-the-scenes player in a variety of public policy jobs that ended with her position at PSU. She was gifted at building relationships among people from various levels of government, friends said.
