Aug. 19--RADFORD -- Chad Harris had been knocking on the door for several weeks. In the first of Twin 75-lap Late Model Stock races Saturday night at Motor Mile Speedway, he completely kicked it down.
And he drop-kicked the defending national champion in the process.
Rooted in one of the longest dry spells of his lengthy career but riding the momentum of four straight top-six finishes, Harris finally broke through for a long-awaited victory that was nearly spoiled by runner-up Philip Morris on the last lap.
"The only one I wanted to really lead was the last one," Harris said. "I could care less about the others."
