POLICE today claimed they were responding to a "direct threat" when an officer drew his taser gun on a Midland hotel owner who was helping to save people from a fire in Newquay.
Alan Findon, who used to live in Sutton Coldfield and now owns the Hotel Tregella in Newquay, claimed he was forced back by police as he tried to save people from the blaze at the adjacent Penhallow Hotel in which a 43-year-old man died.
He claimed he was asked to leave the building by officers, then when he went to get a ladder to get through an upstairs window where he could hear people were trapped he was confronted.
