The story of the Latin American TV market definitely makes for interesting reading. There are enough anecdotes to fill volumes. For example, over there it is difficult to come up with accurate viewership figures for satellite and cable TV networks. The systems themselves tend to downplay their penetration for fear that international program distributors will ask for larger license fees. I wonder how they can "adapt" their figures for the advertising community.
Talk to a distributor and the figures levitate like yeast. Then take programming. Some Spanish-speaking countries won't play Brazilian novelas. "They think our novelas are too complex," commented a Brazilian ...
