Biotechnology could hold the key to treating one of the most lethal diseases, a brain cancer called malignant glioma. Genetically altered herpes cells attack only cancer cells in the brain, US scientists claim.
Researchers at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the University of Chicago found that all mice injected with glioma cells died within 15 days if not treated. Mice given the special herpes virus survived for up to 40 days depending on the dosage (Proc. Natl Acad. Sci., 1995, 92, ...
