WORCESTER - Eddie Bombard drives a wheelchair van up and down Interstate 290, a job that for him is a constant nostalgia trip. When he passes under the Belmont Street bridge he tells his passengers, "Hey, I used to live here."

It isn't a lie. Mr. Bombard grew up in a house that fell victim to the urban renewal of building of I-290 and the Plumley Village housing complex. In the name of progress, a tight-knit neighborhood was destroyed. Mr. Bombard's family was moved into another house in plain view of the I-290 construction.
