UXBRIDGE - Though the town is not eligible for Massachusetts or Federal Emergency Management Agency disaster reimbursement for the massive July 21 fire at the downtown Bernat Mill complex, it has been approved for an emergency loan from the state as local and state officials work to secure Katrina funds.
"It is not a FEMA- or MEMA-declared emergency, and at this time, the town is 100 percent responsible," said Town Manager Jill R. Myers.
However, it is customary in disasters of such magnitude for the state, through MEMA, to survey the departments that responded to the fire and seek reimbursement for overtime costs and loss of ...
