Restless legs syndrome (RLS) and periodic limb movement disorder (PLMD) are primary sleep disorders that have gained considerable notoriety. Although less well-recognized than obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS)--another primary sleep disorder--RLS and PLMD can cause significant morbidity and impair quality of life.
