Aug. 22--RAMTHA -- Employers of hundreds of striking Bangladeshi workers said on Tuesday the Labour Ministry blocked a deal between the company and its employees by insisting on fining the workers for their "illegitimate" strike.
But the ministry said it did not instruct the QIZ company to freeze the agreement.
Majdi Abdo of Hussein Establishment, which owns Al Mithaliya and Najm Al Urdun textile factories based in Irbid, said that after a deal was struck with more than 400 workers on strike since August 2, officials from the ministry called the company and told them to freeze workers' wages because "they owe the state".
