No doubt about it, "Rethinking Public Safety" is a concept local elected officials support and understand. That support was obvious from the constant applause and subtle one-on-one conversations during the Re-thinking Public Safety Plenary Session at the CCC.
Moderator Charlayne Hunter-Gault, MacNeil-Lehrer New Hour national correspondent, began the session by encouraging the audience not to redefine the problem of violence or public safety in general but "to push forward toward solutions that encourage a new vision, a way of rethinking public safety."
