Aug. 23--Maricopa County has more people, more cars and twice the bridges. But for aging, damaged bridges, look to Pima County.

Inspectors in Pima County reported 22 structurally deficient bridges -- three times as many as in Maricopa County. Four span the Santa Cruz River and many are in outlying parts of the Tucson metro area, a federal database shows.

State and county transportation officials say none of the bridges is in imminent danger of collapse like the Minneapolis freeway bridge that tumbled motorists into a river on Aug. 1.
